Appropriate Adult Scheme for Young Suspects (AAYS)

Singapore Children's Society was appointed the service provider for AAYS in February 2017. Under the scheme, adult volunteers will be trained as Appropriate Adults (AAs) to support young suspects, aged between 7 to below 16 years old, who need to attend law enforcement interviews.

- 21 years old and above

- Passion to support children and youth

- To attend mandatory AAYS briefing and training

- Available to attend law enforcement interviews between 11.00pm and 8.00am upon activation

- All applicants are subjected to screening and selection process

- To be present in law enforcement interviews* to assist and provide support to the young suspect

- To be a neutral party during these interviews

- If necessary, to aid communication between the young suspect and the Investigation Officer 

*Please take note that interviews can happen at any time of the day, from Monday to Sunday. Trained volunteers can choose to support interviews that suit your availability.

Average of four times a year (1-year commitment term) 

Location: Islandwide

Programmes and Objectives Requirements Roles and Responsibilities Frequency

Study Time for Primary School Students 

To provide academic support for primary school students during study time.

- 17 years old and above

- Enjoy teaching children

- To provide homework supervision for residents

- To conduct academic revision with residents

Once a week (minimum half a year, from January to May 2021) 

Monday to Friday: 1 hour between 3.00 to 5.00pm

Intervention Support for Children with Learning Difficulties

To improve literacy competency of Sunbeam Place's residents

- 21 years old and above

- Trained and/or have experience in providing literacy intervention for children

- Able to engage children with limited attention span

- Enjoy teaching children

- To conduct regular literacy intervention sessions for individual children 

Once a week (minimum six months)

Timing is flexible.
