Telematch Fun for Families
Fun, family-bonding, and forging new friendships were the order of the day for those at the Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society’s first ever Family Day Telematch on Sunday, 14 April, at Nee Soon East Community Club.
More than 25 families participated in the festivities, which were organised by volunteers from Singapore Polytechnic and Jurong Pioneer Junior College, and staff members from Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society.
The day kicked off with a refreshing yoga workout that stretched our beneficiaries and their parents to new limits. It was led by Society volunteer Sharon Ak, a certified yoga instructor.
New friendships were then forged over team games and relay matches like the “Egg and Spoon Race” and “Run, Waiter, Run”. The games were designed to promote interaction and communication between families, and created immediate bonds – the newly formed teams ended up having lunch together, according to event volunteers.
The action continued on stage, with more games for the children. Families also had some photo booth fun, and the chance to turn their polaroid shots into fridge magnets at an art and craft booth.
“It was really nice to come here and have fun with my family because everyone is usually so busy,” said beneficiary Pandithurai Parimala.
Our participants also appreciated the goodie bags that were filled with food rations, kindly sponsored by honestbee and arranged by The Food Bank Singapore.
“It was great to create an opportunity for our beneficiaries to bond with their families, interact with other families, and take a break from their usual routines. It was heart-warming to see them have fun and make new friends,” said Ms Tan Bee Joo, Director of Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society.
