The annual Singapore Children’s Society’s Charity Gala Dinner brought together some 400 sponsors, donors and well-wishers, and raised over $760,000 when it was held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, on 22 November 2019.

The money will go towards supporting some 77 programmes and services that bring happiness and relief to children in need. The programmes cut across four key categories: Vulnerable Children and Youth, Children and Youth Services, Family Services, and Research and Advocacy.

President Halimah Yacob, the Society’s Patron-in-Chief and the event’s Guest-of-Honour, presented tokens of appreciation to the event’s 14 major sponsors.

Thanking donors, Chairman of Singapore Children’s Society Mr Koh Choon Hui spoke about the Society’s – and the community’s – evolving role in building a better future for children in an increasingly complex world.

“We want to enable the society at large to keep up with the issues that our children and youth in need are facing, so that we can all chip in, whether with our expertise or with our funds, to make their lives better,” he said.

Youth beneficiaries from VOX @ Children's Society wow the audience with their moves

The charity dinner included performances put up by award-winning dance studio StepUp Learning & Dance, singer-songwriter Jeff Ng, and beneficiaries from VOX @ Children’s Society. Much loved TV personality Gurmit Singh hosted a live charity auction, rallying guests to bid for items that included three calligraphy pieces by the late Venerable Song Nian.

Funds were raised during a silent auction, with items including a L’Queen Luxurious Skincare Set, a pair of Business Class tickets to Zurich, Switzerland, and Tranquillity, a painting done by a beneficiary of the Society.

This year’s Charity Gala Dinner was presented by Capital C Corporation, a holding conglomerate that capitalises on fintech, as well as the best emerging technologies in the market, to provide financial services to the under-served in both Singapore and South East Asia.

Besides the auctions, funds were raised through seat and table purchases, outright donations and sponsorships.
