One CABIN, One Heart

June 2017

Representatives from Singapore Children’s Society’s CABIN Club schools around the island came together as one during the annual CABIN Club Camp, Camp One Heart, which was held from 1 to 3 November 2016.

Hosted at adventure training site Sembawang Camp Challenge, the camp brought together 59 students from 11 schools. This year’s camp, themed ‘Care in a Heartbeat’, had a dual aim – to build bonds between students from the various CABIN Club schools while also promoting intergenerational understanding and communication, and instilling a sense of responsibility and empathy towards the elderly.

During the camp, participants visited the Toa Payoh estate, an estate with a number of elderly residents, and helped with spring cleaning their homes. The students also invited another group of elderly to Sembawang Camp Challenge for an evening of games and performances.

Camper Ivan Yap, 14, a member of Project CABIN from Regent Secondary School, said he learnt that each one of us has the ability to help the people around us.

“I learnt how to be more understanding and caring towards others, especially the elderly. Although we are strangers, we can still show our care and love by helping them in any way that they need,” he said.

The camp ended on a high note with a Campers Appreciation Night, during which performances were put up by the camp volunteers.
