#hopebeyondcovid19: Hopes for a Better Tomorrow

June 2020

For nine-year-old Putra, the perfect post-COVID-19 life is not filled with parties or presents. He just wants to visit his grandparents, return to school, and get back to the two hours of outdoor fun he used to enjoy each day, he says.

Putra is one of many who have made video contributions to the Society’s #hopebeyondCOVID19 social media campaign. The campaign, which launched in May, invited staff members, beneficiaries and members of the public to look forward to better times, and to contribute messages of hope in short videos.

Grand hopes: Putra's #hopebeyondCOVID19 is to see his grandparents

Putra’s caseworker and a counsellor from Children Outreach @ Children’s Society, Ms Joanne Ang, hopes that “this season will help us to nurture our patience, kindness and hope for a better future”.

While she has continued to help families like Putra’s receive food rations and meal deliveries, Joanne misses being able to deliver help with a personal touch, and having deeper discussions over what worries them most.

The need for help will continue beyond the easing of Circuit Breaker measures, as many families continue to feel the financial impact of COVID-19.

The Society is actively in touch with beneficiaries impacted by COVID-19 to ensure they have what they need, from meals, daily necessities and study aids, to emotional and psychological support.
