Going the Distance for Children in Need
Thank you Minister: Children's Society Chairman Mr Koh Choon Hui (left) presents a token of appreciation to Minister Ong (right).
Close to 3,000 people had every reason to celebrate when they took part in Singapore Children’s Society’s annual walkathon Walk for Our Children 2017 – and helped raise about $350,000 for children in need.
Themed ‘Celebrating Every Step Together’, this year’s walk, held in conjunction with our 65th anniversary, took place at the Chinese Garden on 30 July 2017.
Ready, set, go: Minister Ong flagging off the Walk.
Guest-of-Honour Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) & Second Minister for Defence, flagged off the event.

Children’s Society’s annual Walk aims to promote family bonding and the spirit of charity. Following the walk, participants were kept entertained with caricature art, henna, and carnival stalls selling food items. Spider-Man and Star Wars characters also stopped by for selfies. Children’s Society Student Service Hub (Bukit Merah) hosted a ‘Bully-Free’ games stall to get out its anti-bullying message through fun games and quizzes.
Super-fun times: Spider-Man and various Star Wars characters made special appearances.
This year’s proceeds were raised through the sale of carnival coupons, 65th anniversary commemorative and carnival packs, outright donations and sponsorships.
Thank you to all who helped make Walk for Our Children 2017 a success, including event supporters COFCO International and Lam Research, and supporting organisations Tote Board, Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club.
