Flagging a Good Cause
It might have been a searing hot morning in the midst of the school holidays, but Ong Min Hui was a girl on a mission – to raise funds for Singapore Children’s Society during its annual Flag Day on 25 November 2015.
Unfazed by the rejections, the then-16-year-old student pressed on, trying to raise as much as she could in the east region of Singapore.
The first-time volunteer comes from a single parent family and knows what a difference she can make to children in need, she says.
“I will continue because I am doing this for a good purpose,” says Min Hui. “Volunteering brings happiness to other people.”
Close to 130 volunteers participated in the Flag Day event, collecting their donation bags from Zhangde Primary School in the morning before fanning out to locations islandwide in their bid to help Children’s Society in its fundraising effort.
