Research Bites Issue 8

Caregiving takes the spotlight in our latest issue of Research Bites, now available online.

In our first study, our researchers investigated the strength of the bond between a child and his or her caregivers, and how this impacts the child’s resilience in the face of adversity, and his or her socio-emotional skills.

The study suggests that caregiver-bonds can be strengthened by participating in the same activities or playing together.

Caregiving arrangements for children was the focus of a second study, which looked into how parents balanced practical constraints against their child’s evolving needs when choosing between caregiving arrangements. The study also suggests that caregivers can be better supported.

Also in this issue, we comb through the data from the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund for insights into the unique struggles faced by our clients from Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society. These include transport cost challenges faced by post-primary school students, since there are not as many secondary schools and junior colleges in the neighbourhood as there are primary schools.
