Care amid the COVID-19 chaos

September 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll not just on health, but also on livelihoods, bringing several industries to a standstill and costing jobs. Many who felt its effects most acutely were those who could least afford it – but the Society stood ready to help, with the aid of generous donors.

Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society, which already works to assist underprivileged families with their daily needs through financial assistance and food rations, tried to dial up the help it gave, but found itself low on supplies like diapers, milk powder and food as demand peaked.

Society staff reached out to family and friends to spread the word, and just a day later, our service centre was flooded with messages and calls from well-wishers who wanted to help. Almost right away, 25 donors came forward with close to $7,000 worth of much-needed supplies.

These donations have made a huge difference to our beneficiaries, and many have expressed their gratitude to case workers.

“Thank you to our donors, who took the time to find out what was needed, and donated generously to tide our beneficiaries over this tough period, especially with items that tend to cost more, like formula and diapers. We are also grateful to those who continue to check in with us to find out how they can help,” says Ms Hanisah Mydin, programme coordinator at Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society.
