Festive Fund-raiser for Christmas
Singapore Children’s Society participated in the annual Children’s Charities Association (CCA) Christmas Fair and Walkathon on 6 December 2014 at Ngee Ann City, taking the opportunity to raise more funds for its beneficiaries.
Following a 1.5km walkathon along Orchard Road, a festive carnival kicked into high gear in the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.
Staff from the Society’s fund-raising department manned a booth selling merchandise, including photo frames that had been decorated by its beneficiaries, event t-shirts, pencil cases, badges and books. All proceeds have gone toward supporting the Society’s work.
Six youth from Children’s Society’s Youth Centre (Jurong), including Muhd Hilmi Bin Ahmad, 16, showcased their hip hop and waacking techniques in an exciting music and dance performance. Waacking is a form of dance that was created in the clubs of Los Angeles.
“I felt really happy and blessed to be given a chance to perform during the CCA Christmas Fair, and to bring joy to the audience through our group dance,” said Hilmi, adding that he was also impressed by the performers from the other organisations.
“They were very talented and their performances were really nice to watch,” he said.
The Christmas Fair and Walkathon is now in its ninth year. Some 1,000 members of the public attended the event.
