Back to School for Project CABIN Alumni
It was Back to School for members of the Project CABIN Alumni Club when they got together for a year-end party on 19 December 2014, and reminisced about the fun times they had in the programme.
Held at Student Service Hub (Bukit Merah), the CABIN Alumni End-of-Year Party, organised with the support of Children’s Society’s staff, brought 26 CABIN Club members, alumni and youth workers together.
The group bonded over games and ice-breakers such as charades, Human Bingo and Animal Family.
Chairman of the Alumni Club, Mr Deryk Low, 23, also presented his report on the Club’s activities during the past year, which included organising an Amazing Race to bring members closer together, and conducting enrichment workshops for CABIN Club members. He also provided a peek into plans for the upcoming year, which will include projects aimed at helping the less fortunate.
Project CABIN, a school-based drop-in community programme by Children’s Society, reaches out to at-risk youth in secondary schools, engaging them in meaningful after-school activities.
During the party, badges and certificates recognising exemplary behaviour were presented to current CABIN Club members.
Goh Cai Yan from Yuying Secondary School and Chou Jun Kiat from Manjusri Secondary School received badges for Resilience, while Guok En Qi from Yuying Secondary School, Shahnaz Nisha Mahboub from Deyi Secondary School and Ng Wen Xuan from Manjusri Secondary School were recognised for Responsibility.
The Project CABIN Alumni Club was set up in 2012 to allow the programme’s graduates to stay in touch with each other and find ways to give back to society. They have been regular volunteers in several of the Society’s programmes including the CABIN Club Camp, Bully-Free Camp and Tinkle Friend Camp.
Committee member Mr Andre Kwek, 23, explained: “Though we are no longer Project CABIN members and most of us weren’t even from the same school, we joined with a common interest in volunteering and giving back to the community.”
