Thursday, 29 August 2024 – Communities will come together on 8 September in support of children’s mental health at Singapore Children’s Society’s Walk for Our Children 2024. Themed “Nurturing Young Minds, Building Happy Lives”, this year’s event aims to raise awareness about the importance of proactive support in addressing mental health concerns among children and youth.
Held at Palawan Green, Sentosa, participants will begin with a 2-kilometre walkathon launched by Guest of Honour, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health. Informative boards along the route will provide useful tips and knowledge about mental health, highlighting to participants how our everyday actions, words and the surrounding environment can significantly impact a child’s mental wellbeing. This gives participants the opportunity to reflect on their own influence as parents, caregivers or community members and what they can do to build a stronger, more supportive environment for all.
The walk will culminate in a carnival featuring a lucky draw, games, fringe activities and performances, some of which are helmed by Children’s Society’s supporters and youth clients. Through fun, educational booths, the Society’s service centres will be offering practical psychoeducational content tailored for children, youth and parents respectively. There will also be a message wall for parents and children to freely share their thoughts and feelings, fostering open conversations and creating a collective display of understanding and connection.
Beyond advocating for a meaningful cause, Walk for Our Children 2024 also serves as a fundraising event organised to support the essential work of Children’s Society. Through the sale of event tickets and carnival coupons, along with outright donations and event support, the Society hopes to raise at least $600,000. All proceeds will go towards supporting the programmes and services run by Children’s Society.
Walk for Our Children 2024, held in conjunction with event supporter, RBC Race For The Kids, is a pet-friendly event open to all members of the public, individuals and corporates alike. All ticket holders are entitled admission to Sentosa, a fun pack and event t-shirt. Carnival coupons can be bought onsite at the event. Interested parties may sign up and find out more via the Walk for Our Children website. Outright donations can also be made through the “Nurturing Young Minds, Building Happy Lives” fundraising campaign.
