Tuesday, 22 November 2022 – Singapore Children’s Society successfully raised a record $1.2 million at the 70th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner held on 22 November. This amount was raised through table sales, outright donations as well as live and silent auctions at the Charity Gala Dinner. Last held in 2019 where the Society raised around $780,000, this was the Society’s first Charity Gala Dinner since the pandemic struck. Around 320 guests attended the event where Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, was the Guest of Honour.

Besides performances by beneficiaries as well as live and silent auctions, the Society’s latest corporate video was also unveiled at the event. Last updated in 2019, this new video adopts a more personal approach in illustrating the scope and impact of the Society’s work. This latest video can be found on the Society’s YouTube channel – ‘Singapore Children’s Society’.

During the Charity Gala Dinner, the first copy of the 70th Anniversary commemorative book was also presented to the Guest of Honour.  Entitled ‘By Your Side: 70 Years of Journeying Together’, this 70th Anniversary Commemorative book showcases the journey that the Society has taken with its beneficiaries and is a tribute to all who have dedicated their time to the Society over the years. Besides documenting the challenges and successes of the Society’s work, it also includes testimonials from past and present beneficiaries, staff and volunteers.

Closing event for the Society’s 70th Anniversary celebrations

As the final event wrapping up the year-long celebrations, the 70th Anniversary Gala Dinner capped off a memorable year for the Society. Celebrations kicked off in April when the Society marked its official 70th birthday with a visit to its residential home, Sunbeam Place by the Patron-in-Chief President Halimah Yacob. The Society also recognised outstanding contributions by volunteers and donors during the Awards Presentation in May, celebrated 27 years of service to Yishun residents during the Society’s Yishun Family Service Centre Open House in July and shared its professional knowledge and research findings with fellow social service practitioners and members of the public at the Society’s 70th Anniversary Learning Festival in October.

Looking back at the Society’s 70th Anniversary milestone, Ms Ang Boon Min, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Children’s Society, said ‘70 years is a monumental milestone for the Society and I am grateful for the trust our beneficiaries have placed in us to allow us to journey with them over the years. It would not have been possible without the dedication and resilience of our past and present staff members, volunteers, donors and other supporters.’
