The article below focused on our Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society beneficiary Mdm Norgayah Yusoff, who benefitted with the help of our Project Cook programme, an employment initiative started in November 2021 that matches home-based cooks with cooking assignments. With the help of Project Cook, Mdm Norgayah can now spend time looking after her four children while doing business from home.

Mdm Norgayah, who is interested in cooking, decided to set up her catering business, NY Home Style Cuisine, through social media sites and took orders from acquaintances and relatives. However, she encountered challenges as she did not have the skills to market her business to get customers. She is grateful to be able to receive assistance for her business through Project Cook programme since last year as she gets more orders from the app platforms provided by the programme and it helped to improve and grow her business. Now she feels more financially independent and can contribute and help her family in their daily expenses.

Mdm Norgayah is among several beneficiaries who shared her experience at the Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society Open House, which was held in conjunction with our 70th anniversary celebrations and will run until September 30. The article also quoted from our Chairman Mr Koh Choon Hui’s speech, noting that the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years has been extremely challenging for all to adapt to the new way of life and how the number of individuals and families in need of assistance from Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society increased by 40 per cent from 1,092 to 1,544 between 2020 and 2021.
