Singapore Children’s Society held our annual Walk for Our Children on 30 September 2023. More than 2,000 registered for the event which was graced by Minister Ong Ye Kung. The physical event comprised a 2km walkathon and a carnival with food, games, activities and performances. One of the booths was set up by our Oasis for Minds Services to raise awareness about mental health for children and youth. Participants also had the option of leaving encouraging notes for others.
Around $580,000 was raised through the sale of event tickets and carnival coupons, along with outright donations and event support. All proceeds go towards supporting the programmes and services run by Children’s Society.
In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Mdm Teng Mei Ling – a past beneficiary and participant at the event, shared about the help that she and her family had received from Children’s Society in the past and that she would support events held by the Society as her financial situation has improved.
Ms Low Jia Li, Senior Manager of the Community Engagement and Partnerships Department at Children’s Society, spoke about the challenges faced when planning the event and the marketing efforts that went into promoting it.
