Sharing Stories from the 'Human Library'

Ms Grace Yap got to be a book for a day, when she shared the story of her role in public education and advocacy with Singapore Children’s Society at Temasek Polytechnic on 13 January.

An Assistant Manager from our Research and Outreach Centre, Ms Yap was part of the 6th edition of the Human Library, which brings together people from different backgrounds to share their personal stories with readers.

During the half-day event, Ms Yap talked about her passion for helping children, and aspects of her work in child sexual abuse prevention.

The event was organised by Youth Corps Singapore’s Empathy Taskforce and Etch Empathy. Their collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic marks the largest edition of the Human Library yet, with 25 books and 250 readers.

The Human Library first began in 2000 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the objective of bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to challenge socio-cultural mindsets, foster meaningful dialogue, and build positive relationships.
