Over $900,000 Raised for Children in Need

More than 500 sponsors, donors and well-wishers helped make dreams come true at Once Upon a Fairy Tale, the Singapore Children’s Society’s Charity Gala Dinner held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore on 24 November 2016.

In a single evening, they raised close to $925,000 towards bringing relief and happiness to children in need.

Thanking donors, Guest-of-Honour Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, said that all Singaporeans had a part to play in giving the next generation a better chance at life, whatever their background.

“While we may not have a common past, we can define a common future based on our commitment, and give our next generation the very best opportunities to succeed, regardless of race, language or religion, regardless of ancestry, regardless of personal connections.”

Building a better future for children from needy and dysfunctional families is often a “long and challenging” journey, he said, thanking the Society for the role it played and encouraging more Singaporeans to take up the cause.

“I hope that your contributions, be it in time, treasures or talent, will help us to define the spirit of Singapore that we so want to see,” he said.

The charity dinner included performances by renowned musician Mr Jeremy Monteiro and jazz singer Ms Melissa Tham. Former radio presenter Mr Joe Augustine hosted a live charity auction, rallying guests to bid for items that included two calligraphy pieces by the late Venerable Song Nian.

Items were also auctioned off in a silent auction, including a Swarovski Jet crystal sculpture, an exquisite four-piece crystal orange set and a Prada Tessuto foulard.

Besides the auctions, funds were raised through table and seat bookings, donations and sponsorships.

Singapore Children’s Society’s Charity Gala Dinner 2017 will be held on 19 October 2017, at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.
