Talent on display: A Sunbeam Place resident takes to the stage with his original song, Second Home

Our in-house talent took centrestage at the official kick-off of the Singapore Children’s Society’s 70th anniversary celebrations on 16 April 2022.

The audience at Sunbeam Place @ Children’s Society’s annual talent show included Guest of Honour President Halimah Yacob, who was treated to an evening of song and dance. Our residents also hosted a walkthrough of a heritage exhibition, and provided a tour of the home, a gazetted place of safety for vulnerable children.

Thank you for your service: President Halimah with this year’s Singapore Children’s Society Awards winners

Some 60 deserving individuals and organisations, including Amazon Singapore and Tote Board, were honoured during Singapore Children’s Society Awards 2022 on 28 May 2022. They received their awards from Guest of Honour President Halimah Yacob and Chairman of Singapore Children’s Society Mr Koh Choon Hui at the Stephen Riady Auditorium at NTUC Centre.

Amazon Singapore received our Commendation Service Award, while Tote Board and The Estate of William Tung Wai Yoon were the recipients of this year’s Gopal Haridas Award. Depending on the length of their volunteer service and quantum of their donations, other volunteers and donors received Platinum, Gold or Silver Service Awards. These awards have been given out annually since 1982.

Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society’s Open House

As part of Singapore Children’s Society’s anniversary celebrations, Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society threw its doors open to the public. The Open House marked its 27th year offering support programmes to the Yishun community. At the launch of the Open House on 9 July 2022, Guest of Honour Mr Derrick Goh, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, was taken through the centre’s services and programmes, and met its beneficiaries. He also heard from volunteers and staff about care challenges overcome during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the Open House, which went on until 20 September, visitors could tour the centre and learn more about available support.

70th Anniversary Learning Festival 2022

Childhood insights: “Thinking of Children”, which compiles our lectures from 2015 to 2021, was launched at the Learning Festival. It is the second volume in this series.

Over 300 people attended the Singapore Children’s Society’s Learning Festival on 14 October 2022. The full-day event at the NTUC Centre included the 15th Singapore Children’s Society Lecture by Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, the launch of “Thinking of Children”, a compilation of our lectures, and three Learning Sessions.

A record $1.2 million was raised at our 70th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner at Sands Expo and Convention Centre on 22 November 2022. It was attended by over 300 people, including Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, who was the Guest of Honour.

Contributions came in from table sales and cash donations, as well as from live and silent auctions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was the first time the event has been held since 2019.
