In this session, we’ll explore common stressors including role restrictions and overload, parent-child relationships as well as balancing work and parenting duties.

Join us and hear from our panellists as they share their experiences, observations and tips on navigating parental challenges.

Ms Sun Xueling

Ms Sun Xueling
Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development

Every child in our society can thrive and flourish. Let us be present for our children. We can give them a good start in life.

Ms Sun’s portfolio in the Ministries covers preschool education and family-related policies. Under her leadership, the Early Childhood Development Agency which regulates the preschool industry has steadily been expanding the number of government-supported preschool places. She also oversees the expansion of the KidSTART programme to support preschool children from lower-income families. She was also previously Minister of State at the Ministry of Education from 2020 to 2022.

Ms Sun is a mother to two happy young girls. In her spare time, she reads books online to parents and children with the aim of strengthening bonds between parent and child and inculcating positive values. She has also published a series of children’s books.

Dr Cheung Hoi Shan
Assistant Professor, Psychology and Child & Human Development, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University

At the core of parenting is connection. Prioritize your relationship with your child and don’t forget to be kind to ourselves too.

Dr Cheung’s passion in parenting and children’s development in Singapore has shone through her research interests. With close to 20 years of research experience, she has explored many areas related to parent-child attachment and parenting practices, and their impact on children’s self-regulation, social relationships, and well-being. She is also a mother of a teenager.

Ms Gloria Ng
Deputy Director & Head of Student Service, Singapore Children’s Society

It truly takes a village to raise a child, and society can grow alongside our parents so that children can grow in supportive homes and community.

Ms Ng believes in the importance of promoting children’s holistic development in their early years. She currently oversees the Tinkle Friend service, a helpline and chatline for primary school children, as well as various programmes promoting the socio-emotional development of children. She has over 12 years of experience working with families, educators, helping professionals and volunteers.

Ms Lin Xiaoling
Group Lead of Research and Advocacy, Singapore Children’s Society

"Parenting is learning how not to sweat about the small bumps along the journey, but to focus on what we hope to build with our children as they grow up.

Ms Lin has more than 14 years of experience in the areas of public education and advocacy. Her current work focuses on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, promotion of positive parenting and body safety education, as well as the translation of research findings into actionable insights for greater impact and change. She is a mother to two primary schoolers, one of whom is sitting for her PSLE this year.
