Everything was abuzz at Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society on Saturday, 9 July, ahead of an Open House which would allow visitors to see how the Family Service Centre (FSC) has served the needs of the Yishun Community over the last 27 years.
Sound checks were conducted to ensure those who joined in virtually could follow the live reporting of activities, and a delicious array of sandwiches, curry puffs, spring rolls and traditional kuih was prepared and presented by our beneficiary Mdm Norgayah.
Held as part of our 70th Anniversary celebrations, and themed “70 years of bringing hope and smiles”, the event allowed us to showcase the various programmes the FSC offers.
Our 50 beneficiaries and guests started to arrive from 9am, and posed in front of the ‘Hopes & Smiles Wall’ for polaroid pictures, which were then displayed on the wall.

The arrival of our Guest of Honour Mr Derrick Goh, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, kicked the event into full swing. Our Chairman Mr Koh Choon Hui delivered the opening address, followed by short presentations by several beneficiaries, who shared anecdotes of their FSC experiences and how they were helped. The audience was then treated to some lighthearted videos capturing more personal stories of beneficiaries, and their hopes and aspirations for the future.

Guests then toured the centre and learnt more about the support it offers, whether for employment, healthcare or mental well-being. They subsequently tucked into the delicious spread and had a chance to mingle.

Fang Xinwei, Deputy Head of Yishun FSC and Organiser of the Open House said it was heartening that people could physically get together to see how much the centre had achieved.
“The last two years have been challenging for our beneficiaries as well as for the FSC staff. Despite that, we managed to implement programmes such as Project Cook which matches home-based cooks with cooking assignments, and Community Health Post, a partnership with Yishun Community Health to deliver healthcare services. These programmes ensure that care is continued.”
The Open House will continue until 30 September and is open to the public during centre opening hours. Do make an appointment before visiting our centre by calling Yishun FSC on 6753 7331 or sending an email to yishunfsc@childrensociety.org.sg.
