As a teenager, Felicia Toh found company, fun, and meaning at JYC @ Children’s Society. At 22, she’s back – this time as a volunteer at 2Gather, a virtual drop-in space by VOX @ Children’s Society.
Felicia’s Society journey began at 14, when a friend introduced her to the youth drop-in centre.
“I have a lot of great memories, including from Youth Day camps where I challenged myself to complete high elements activities and compete in the Amazing Races,” recalls Felicia, who is now studying in a local polytechnic.
It was there that her journey of giving began. Through Meals on Wheels, she helped distribute food packets to the elderly in nearby housing estates. She went on to get involved in organisations such as Heartware Network and the People’s Association, and participated in the Chingay and the National Day Parades.
A chance encounter while scrolling through Instagram Live put 2Gather and its youth engagement activities on her radar, and she signed up as a volunteer.
She now participates in 2Gather’s outreach events, including its Pokémon Unite Tournament that took place in December 2021. She helped plan and manage the event on the day, overseeing attendance and scoring.
She also reaches out to first-timers at 2Gather in the virtual space, and engages with them, including through online games.
“I want them to know that they are not alone, and that we are always here for them,” she says.
