(Walk for Our Children 2021 – Pre-recorded Video Message by President Halimah Yacob)

You (still) have the power to Walk for Our Children

Walk for Our Children is our annual signature fundraising event and we’re sure it’s an event name familiar to many. Despite the uncertain circumstances, we didn’t want to eliminate the joy the community shared while being able to walk for a cause. Hence, we evolved the event into a Virtual Walk last year and did the same this year.

You may wonder “How are some of our beneficiaries doing or what are some of their stories like?” Here’s a story that may help you understand why we love doing what we do, and what spurs us on to do our best to help children, youth and families in need.

Mdm Kumari*, Mr Siva* and their two children aged 8 and 9 years old were impacted by stressors such as disagreements and financial concerns which shook the family’s stability. Mdm Kumari*, a foreigner who spent most of her life outside Singapore had limited knowledge of the formal support available.

She then approached Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society for assistance and support. We journeyed closely with the family in linking them with emergency resources such as our Casework Fund to meet their immediate needs like transportation cost for school. The Straits’ Times School Pocket Money Fund was also used to ensure that the children can afford meals and school supplies. Additionally, we further assisted with their applications for Student Care Subsidies so that the children could be cared for while Mdm Kumari* goes to work.

We witnessed how these efforts coupled with counselling support, financial assistance, and donated items helped tide the family through this difficult period.

Your support can impact a child’s life in a positive way and help Children’s Society to continue to care for our beneficiaries. All proceeds from this campaign will support programmes we run to help children, youth and families in need.

While we may not be all walking in a single venue together, we can still experience the joy of walking for a cause and for our children. You can choose to run or walk anywhere in Singapore at your convenience – Anytime, Anywhere, Everywhere. We’ve also taken the carnival cheer online by including interactive games on our event site where you’ll stand a chance to win attractive prizes.
