One of the most profound ways we can impact the future of our society is by volunteering our time, money, or effort to help children in need. Even with the high standard of living in Singapore, there are families and children who fall through the cracks.
Charity organisations like Singapore Children’s Society were established to reach out to these vulnerable groups. With the valuable contributions of our volunteers and donors, we have initiated a diverse range of initiatives and programmes that aim to provide the necessary support for our beneficiaries, regardless of race or religion.
However, there is only so much we can do on our own, and it is ultimately the goodwill of individuals such as yourself that will enable us to achieve our goal of protecting and nurturing children and youth. Here are some of the ways you can help children in need:
1. Organise a Crowdfunding Activity
Crowdfunding in Singapore is a great way to raise money and awareness for causes you care about. By combining social activism with the reach of the internet and various online platforms, crowdfunding provides you an accessible way to do your part to help vulnerable children and youth.
Give2Children (G2C) is our very own crowdfunding platform, through which you can create your own online campaign and raise funds for the Children’s Society. Whether you are an individual or a corporate fundraiser, it is a way for you to put together a personalised fundraising campaign that revolves around a specific cause that you feel strongly for, or which you know will resonate with those within your network.
If you have a creative fundraising idea, the G2C platform allows you the flexibility to plan and execute the campaign with minimal fuss. More importantly, it is a chance for you to get personally involved in the fundraising process without the additional commitment that a conventional offline fundraising campaign might require.
Our crowdfunding platform not only allows corporations to do their part to raise funds, it also provides them with the mechanics to turn their CSR efforts into a fun little internal competition for their staff. Organise your staff into teams, set up a campaign for each team in G2C, then let them compete to see which team can hit their fundraising goal first! It can be part of a team-building activity, and can help make your CSR program in Singapore more unique.
2. Volunteer your Time
Know how to play a guitar? Or perhaps you are pretty good at tutoring others in certain subjects. Or maybe you would like to spread the love of basketball amongst youths. If you find yourself with a bit of free time on your hands, and with a skillset you think might be beneficial for children, then you might want to consider volunteering with us. Singapore Children’s Society is always on the lookout for passionate volunteers to help out in a variety of programmes.
If you are a small or medium business that is looking to give back to society and who takes their social responsibilities very seriously, but you do not yet have the financial bandwidth to make a cash donation, then volunteering is just one of many different CSR activities in Singapore that you can participate in. You can even turn it into a teambonding activity!
3. Donate to Fundraising Efforts
We at the Children’s Society are a largely self-funded charity organisation in Singapore, and every dollar could make the difference between whether there are sufficient resources for an additional child to join one of our programmes.
From helping vulnerable youth, to providing children, youth and family services, or attempting to educate and inform through research and advocacy, the diverse range of programmes and services we provide to and for our beneficiaries are funded by the generosity of our donors. Donating to us means directly contributing to these programmes and supporting the beneficiaries under the umbrella of our care.
If you have thought of contributing to charitable causes but have no idea where to begin, check out the many fundraising campaigns that are already on our Give2Children platform to see if there is a cause you would like to donate to. Our Give2Children platform makes it easy to find, and contribute to, campaigns that other individuals like yourself have set up. And it is not just for individuals; corporations can also tap on our user-friendly platform to make donations to campaigns as part of their CSR activities.
Not only will your donations be eligible for tax deductions, you will also be enabling us to continue our preventive and developmental work in the community and to advocate for those we serve, and to more effectively tackle the challenges to the well-being of children, youth and families that continue to emerge in new forms.
