Special words for a special someone. Hear what Renee Tan, 15, has to say about our senior worker Ms Hong Jing Ying. Renee is a member of our youth drop-in centre VOX @ Children’s Society and she refers to Jing Ying as Ms JY in her reflection.
“I first joined VOX in 2020, when the COVID pandemic had just started. With all the restrictions due to the lockdown, I was getting really bored. That all changed when I was introduced to VOX’s virtual drop in by my friends.
Throughout these three years at VOX, there have been many great and memorable experiences that have helped me to open up as a person. Because of VOX, I have had the chance to experience many amazing opportunities given by my social worker, Ms JY.
These included volunteering for the Singapore Children’s Forum in 2022 and a charity walk event to help provide rice for needy families.
These experiences have helped me grow as a person and increased my confidence. Ms JY has been my enthusiastic social worker since 2020, and she has always been by my side through my ups and downs these three years. She always took the extra effort to make time for me despite her busy schedule.
I would like to thank her because I know that being a social worker isn’t easy and that it can be super challenging to meet youth from different backgrounds. I hope that the strong bond that we have developed over the past three years continues to grow for the next three years and more.”
