Close to 3,000 participants gathered at Palawan Green, Sentosa, on 8 September 2024 for Singapore Children’s Society’s annual Walk for Our Children. Launched by Guest of Honour, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health, the event began with a 2-kilometre walkathon, followed by a family carnival.

Themed “Nurturing Young Minds, Building Happy Lives”, this year’s event featured informative boards along the walk route and a Learning Pavilion, where useful tips and knowledge about mental health were shared with participants.

In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Ms Priscilla Chan, Senior Social Worker and Team Lead of the Flourishing Minds team at Children’s Society, shared that through the event, the Society aims to advocate the importance of proactive support in addressing mental health concerns among children and youth.

Through the sale of event tickets and carnival coupons, along with outright donations and event support, Walk for Our Children sought to raise at least $600,000 in proceeds. The funds will go towards supporting the programmes and services run by Children’s Society.

Mr Kurt Wee, Chairman of the Community Engagement and Partnerships Standing Committee at Children’s Society, expressed his hopes that such a family event would inspire and encourage generational giving among attendees. He also mentioned that the Society will continue its efforts in the area of mental wellness and positive development for children and youth.
