Description:
Tinkle Friend Helpline is a helpline meant for primary
school aged children, around 7 to 12 years old. It aims to provide
emotional and social support to children who are in distress. Some
of these children are latch-key children or children whose main
caregivers are unavailable at that moment. The helpline also acts as
an alternate avenue for children to share their issues . It is open
on weekdays and is closed on weekends and public
holidays.
Responsibilities:
To man the line and provide social and emotional
support to the callers in need
Training for volunteers:
3 full days of workshop and
additional 3 to 5 sessions of supervision on the
line. The number of supervised sessions undertaken by the volunteer
depends on factors like the ability to engage with the caller,
skills in exploring issues with the caller and having an attitude of
being non-judgmental and open to discussing issues with caller.
Volunteer
requirements:
Minimum age requirement of 21
years
Proficient in English
Enjoy talking to children and listening to their
issues
Commitment period:
Be able to commit for at least a
year.
Frequency:
At least one session a week. There are 2 sessions a
day, in the morning from 9.30-11.30 am and in the afternoon from
2.30 pm to 5 pm. Therefore you are expected to be able to commit for
at least 1 session a week, either AM or PM
Potential volunteers will be called for an interview.
Thereafter, those who are selected may proceed with the training.
Volunteers are assessed for suitability for helpline work at each
stage of the training process

We
are looking for volunteers who can help us produce a video clip for
our Bully Free Forum. At our forum, we will be screening a short
video highlighting the views of adults, youths and children on the
topic of “Cyber Bullying”. Hence, we need volunteers who are
well versed in such video filming and productions.
Research
studies conducted by Singapore Children’s Society highlighted the
high prevalence rates of school bullying in Singapore. One in 5
primary school students and 1 in 4 secondary school students were
found to be victims of school bullying. As such, Children’s Society
has been involved in numerous efforts to promote awareness about
school bullying since 2004, in the aim to advocate a safer and
friendlier environment in schools.

We are looking for volunteers
who can be facilitators for our Supervised Study Programme. This is
a programme for primary school students who need academic help,
especially in English and Mathematics. Volunteer-tutors conduct
one-to-one/two (children) tuition session once a week.

& duties
Help with
administrative duties; be a good role model; befriend and mentor the
students, stand-in as relief tutors.
