SOME 20 children from Henderson Student Care Centre were given a money management board game to play yesterday, at the launch of a programme by OCBC Bank to teach basic financial knowledge to children from low income families.
The programme will be introduced to other centres under the care of the Singapore Children's Society in coming months to reach about 200 families, the bank said. It is working with Alpha Financial Advisers, a unit of insurer Great Eastern, 'to help lower-income families break out of the poverty cycle by learning good financial habits'.
'Financial literacy is one important life skill that should be taught from young,' said OCBC group chairman Cheong Choong Kong. 'I hope that the children and their families learn this the fun way.' |
